What happened to YS?

In late 2012, the executive team started to realize that the name, Youth Section, no longer met our needs as we had grown well beyond the jamea. All of our members were notified of the decision to change our name and they were encouraged to take part in the process by providing suggestions of names they felt better reflected the organization. After seven months of discussions and meetings, the executive team with the support of the advisory team, decided to rename Youth Section to Afghan Youth Committee. This name better reflects us as an organization while ensuring that our association with ACIC is clear.

Is there a membership fee?

This is a tricky question because we, AYC, don't have a membership fee. We are a division of the Afghan Canadian Islamic Community which does have a membership fee for those 18 and older. Annual memberships for families is $600 and the single membership fee is $300 for those who are older than 18. Your membership fees help fund our programs so it is really important that you pay them annual (it is only $25 a month)!

How can I get involved?

Do you get paid for being an executive?

No, we are all volunteers! The rewards are much greater than any amount of money :)
