The Afghan Youth Committee's mission is to empower a youth’s critical understanding and awareness about their faith and traditions that masks the Canadian-Afghan Muslim identity. We are a division of the Afghan Canadian Islamic Community which is a non-profit and non-political organization in a religious and cultural centre that wishes to empower its youth's participation.
Throughout the past five years we have been focusing on providing the community with a holistic set of programs ranging from lectures to social programs. Our aim to is to bring together the community in an engaging, interactive and educational manner.
Our social events allow you to try something fun and get to know others in the community in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Throughout the years we have held events such as skating, skiing, BBQs, Horseback Riding, Swimming, Soccer Tournament and many more! Our cultural events are focused on celebrating our Afghan culture in a memorable way and have included things such as our Nowroz Carnival, Eid Family Picnics and more. Our main goal is to provide the community with many different opportunities throughout the year to learn more about Islam through different methods. We have invited a wide variety of speakers to our centre and will continue to bring speakers whom you want to hear and learn from! We are proud to be Canadian and always look for ways we can give back to our community. Our Annual Ramadan Food Drive collects hundreds of items for the Food Bank in the Muslim Welfare Centre. This past year we held our first "Feed the Soul" event which distributed over 500 meals to those in need in Toronto. The AYC team also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.
AYC aims to connect and empower the youth to other youth within and outside the Afghan-Canadian community. For the past few years we have been focused also on building relationships with other youth groups in the GTA and we have found great success! A wide variety of events have been held with a wide range of groups.
